This dish is a great solution for me with our Blue Jay problem. Those little suckers are always trying to eat my precious kitty's food when she's not around. The lid on this dish has them stumped. Even Racoons tend to have to turn the whole thing over to get any food out. My kitty picked up the foot pedal in 2 days by my just taking her paw & gently pressing the pedal. A cat's natural curiosity gets them pawing at the thing to figure it out. No worries, your cat is just as smart as mine. Buy this product!

I bought this bowl for my two year old cat because he enjoys fresh food. Anytime I would put fresh food in his regular bowl he ate it immediately--even if there was already food in there! So when I saw this bowl for sale, I wanted to give it a shot. The benefits are obvious: it keeps his bowl much cleaner and keeps a lot of his fur as well as dust out of his food. I have had this product for months now and it is still in great shape. It seems to be built well and a decently sturdy product.

When I was considering buying this product, I was worried that my cat may not understand how to use it and that it would be a waste of money. Sure, that's a risk that you will be taking if you decide to purchase this item. But I am glad I did. At first, my cat was confused by the bowl and didn't understand it. My grandfather and I picked up his paw and put it on the lever to show him a few times. Within the first day he was using his new food bowl. The only problem was that he would step on the lever to open it, stick his head in and start eating, then pull his paw off the lever so the lid would fall on his head (but he didn't care... he would keep eating). Within 2 days he realized that the better way to do it was to keep his paws on the lever!

So, I highly recommend this. I was comfortable leaving my cat with his new food bowl after only the first day while I went to my boyfriends for the night. Of course though, I had my grandfather check on him. I was sort of surprised that my cat caught on as quick as he did because he is not a very bright cat. If you want to keep your cats food fresher, I suggest buying this!! Also, it is very cool and I like showing my friends and family when they come over. They all think it's really cute/cool. :) Hope this helped! There weren't any reviews available when I purchased it so I had to take a chance.

We have a horrible mouse problem, and our elderly and none-too-bright cat isn't much help. In fact, after we transferred every scrap of people-food in the kitchen into mouse-proof containers, the little critters started stealing from the cat's bowl. So I ordered this about a month ago. It works perfectly--we've had the occasional visitor, but they're no longer acting like they own the place. The problem is with our dumb cat. He cannot figure out how to use it. Every.single.time he wants to eat, he sits next to the bowl and meows until someone comes and helps him. We never push the lever for him--we only put his paw on it and press down just enough to crack it open, after which he does the rest. But he has never once just done it himself. And when I tried taping a piece of cardboard on the lever, as in another review, he just walked around it. Wouldn't touch the cardboard at all.

Perhaps he's a freak, perhaps it's an old-dog-new-trick thing. But we're getting ready to go on vacation soon and this cat is going to starve if he doesn't get the hang of it. Bah.

What a fantastic yet simple invention the Cat Flip. As your cat approaches the bowl and steps on the lever, the dome shaped perspex lid opens to expose the food. Your cat can then feed at its leisure until he moves away from the bowl, the lid then gently lowers over the bowl keeping the food inside fresh. The bowl can be placed outside as the lid protects the contents from vermin and flies, also if left in your home the lid prevents embarrassing fish smells. The bowl is fitted with rubber bungs on the vase to prevent any movement of the bowl, it can also be dismantled easily enough for cleaning.
